The necklace is the gift. The box is what makes it feel like one.
Buy a pendant online and it usually turns up in a poly bag or a flimsy branded folder. That's fine for shipping and terrible for giving. This is a solid black walnut box with a velvet interior and a chain holder — so the necklace arrives sitting properly, untangled, in something she'll keep long after the wrapping is gone.
Three things it actually solves
The chain won't arrive in a knot. There's a velvet chain holder inside, not just a flat pad. The pendant sits in the middle and the chain is held on either side, so it opens the way you'd want it photographed — not as a tangle she has to work loose in front of you.
The lid does what you need, both ways. A magnetic flip-top: closed, the magnet holds it shut, so it won't spring open in a gift bag or a coat pocket. Open, it flips past vertical and stays there on its own — so the necklace stays on show while she looks at it.
It doesn't get thrown away. A branded jewelry folder goes in the bin within a week. A solid walnut box with her name on the lid goes on the nightstand and holds the necklace between wearings. That's the difference between packaging and a keepsake.
Free engraving, up to 30 characters
A name. A date. Two words that mean something to the two of you. Type it into the Free Engraving field above — or leave it blank and simply reply to your order confirmation email.
Either way, we email you before anything is cut. You'll get layout options to choose from, and nothing is engraved until you've approved one. That is also your chance to check the spelling: names are the easiest thing in the world to get wrong, and wood does not have an undo.
Same price with or without engraving. Engraved pieces are made to order, so they need 1–2 business days more and can't be returned unless they arrive damaged.
Four velvet colors
Black, wine red, coffee, and army green. Gold and rose-gold chains read warmest against the coffee and wine red; silver and white gold read cleanest against the black.

Will my necklace fit?
It's built for a pendant necklace on a fine or medium chain — the pendant sits centered and the chain tucks around the velvet holder.
It's not the right box for a heavy statement piece, a thick rope chain, or a long layered set — those need a flat tray rather than a pendant box. If you're not sure, email us a photo of the necklace at info@monowoodstudio.com and we'll tell you honestly before you order.
