The oil goes on a pad inside a stainless steel cup. The cherry is a sleeve around the outside of that cup, so nothing porous is soaking up last month's scent and nothing stains.
Three bands, one cup
Look at it side on and you can see what it is made of: steel at the bottom, a band of cherry round the middle, steel again at the top. The wood is a jacket, not the vessel.
