A slotted walnut board arches over a plain one. The pack lies in the space between them, and there are no walls anywhere on it.

How it goes together

Both boards are cut to the same waisted outline. The upper one arches up; the lower one is its mirror, a shallow cradle that rests on the table on a small flat pad in the middle. The slim pack lies in the cradle, the slotted board drops over it, and four magnets in the corners pull the two boards square. Refilling is lifting the top board off — not opening a box.

• Each board about 14 mm (0.6 in) thick
• The two boards meet at the ends and open through the middle; the pack sits in between
• Four magnets set into the corners of the base board hold the two boards in line
• One slot with rounded ends through the upper board; the base board is plain

• The inside of the slot is sanded and chamfered exactly like the outside
• Solid throughout — never veneer, never a wood-effect print
• Finished in wood wax oil, not lacquer

Looking after it

• Wipe dry; do not soak it
• Away from a radiator or a sunny windowsill — a thin board moves more than a thick one
