How it works

Each trivet is eight tapered walnut fingers strung on Japanese elastic cord. Set a dish on one and its own weight presses the fingers open into a flat disc about 200 mm across; lift the dish off and the cord pulls them back up into a cone.

  • The gravity action needs a smooth tabletop — on a rough or heavily textured surface the fingers do not open evenly
  • Wood under a hot pan darkens where the heat sits. Those marks come with use and are not a fault
  • Rinse and stand to drain; they dry quickly
