Solid black walnut with a soft velvet interior, so gold and plated pieces never rest against bare wood. Trays share the same footprint, so any combination stacks flush.

How the trays are built — the questions people ask

Are the ring slots removable? No. The slots are part of the velvet insert, and the insert is fixed into the tray — nothing lifts out. If you want a tray with no slots, choose the Flat layout: one open velvet bed with nothing dividing it.

Is the bottom wood or fabric? Fabric. The whole interior of every tray is lined in soft velvet — the bed, the compartment walls, and the ring slots themselves. There is no bare wood on the inside, so rings, plated pieces and watch cases never touch timber.

Can I change the layout later? Not on the same tray — each one is a single layout. What you can do is add another tray in a different layout; they all stack together.
