No water. No heat. Just the oil.

Most diffusers you plug in are humidifiers: they dilute a few drops into a tank of water and push out steam. This one does not. Air moving at speed past a fine tube lifts neat oil up it and shears it into a dry mist. Nothing is watered down and nothing is warmed, so the scent that leaves the star is the scent in the bottle.

Where the mist comes from

The glass tree lifts straight off the base. A few drops of neat oil go in the bottom — keep the level below the air tube — and a light touch starts it.

Looking after it

• Keep the oil level below the air tube inside the glass
• Rinse the glass with a little rubbing alcohol when you change scent
• Wipe the walnut with a dry cloth; keep it out of standing liquid
