Six solid wood trivet discs that stack into a lantern on the table and come apart one at a time as dishes land.

The handle lives in the slot

Each disc is cut from one piece with a narrow slot straight through the middle — steam goes out through it and a finger goes in to lift. The two legs of the brass handle sit in the ends of that slot, so raising the handle raises its disc and the whole set moves in one hand.
