Most personalisation sellers publish a single "production time" that quietly folds together four different stages: the queue before anyone looks at your order, whatever approval step exists, the cutting itself, and packing. Those four have different lengths and different owners. Below, ours are separated, with the arithmetic for counting backwards from a date you cannot move.
How long does engraving take on a walnut ring box?
Engraving adds 1 to 2 business days on top of normal processing. An un-engraved box takes 7 to 15 business days from order to doorstep; an engraved one takes 8 to 17 business days, tracked the whole way. The cutting itself is the shortest and most predictable stage in that chain.
The number people expect to be large is the small one. Laser engraving 30 characters into a walnut lid is a short, repeatable operation. What actually consumes the calendar is settling the text and crossing an ocean — and only one of those two is usually disclosed.
Does engraving delay shipping on a ring box order?
Yes, by 1 to 2 business days on our side, plus however long you take to approve a layout. Everything else is identical to an un-engraved order: 1 to 3 business days of processing, then 6 to 12 business days of tracked transit to the US and Canada.
Put side by side, in business days:
- Un-engraved: 1–3 processing + 6–12 transit = 7 to 15 business days
- Engraved: 1–3 processing + 1–2 engraving + 6–12 transit = 8 to 17 business days, plus your own reply time on the layout email
So the honest answer is that engraving costs you about two days of the seller's clock and an unknown amount of your own. That second half is the part worth planning around.
Do you send a proof before engraving a ring box lid?
Yes. Within 1 business day of your order we email three laid-out versions of your text — different line breaks, different typefaces, the spacing worked out — and nothing is cut until you reply and pick one. That approval step is the only stage we cannot put a number on, because half of it is your reply time.
This is where our timeline differs from the category norm. The standard flow is: you type into a form field at checkout, the seller cuts exactly what you typed, and you see the result for the first time when the parcel opens. Fast, and completely unprotected — there is no moment at which anyone checks.
Building a round trip into the schedule costs days. It also means a typo, an awkward line break or a date in the wrong format gets caught while the lid is still blank. A buyer who replies in ten minutes and a buyer who replies on Monday get different delivery dates from an identical order, which is exactly why we quote the stages separately instead of averaging them into one figure.
How long does an engraved jewelry box take to arrive in the US?
Eight to 17 business days door to door, with tracking the whole way. Processing takes 1 to 3 business days, engraving adds 1 to 2, and transit to the US or Canada runs 6 to 12 business days. Your three layouts arrive by email within 1 business day of ordering, inside that processing window.
Notice which stage is largest. It is not the engraving — it is the transit. Our pieces are cut by a partner hardwood workshop and ship from our fulfilment partner in China, and that leg is the price of it. We would rather say so plainly than publish a number that only works if nothing crosses a border.
Two things that do not add time: duties are prepaid, so nothing is collected on delivery, and shipping is free on orders over $35 to the US and Canada ($7.99 below that). Neither depends on whether the piece is engraved.
How far in advance should you order an engraved ring box for Christmas?
Count backwards 17 business days from the date it has to be physically in someone's hands, not from the occasion, then subtract the holidays inside that window. A gift that gets wrapped on 24 December has to arrive by the 22nd, which on our numbers puts the last safe order date in late November.
Seventeen is the top of our 8-to-17 range, and planning to the top of a range is the whole point of doing this on paper. Then add your own reply time on the layout email, and remember that Thanksgiving Thursday and the Friday after are not shipping days.
Four things worth doing before you order anything engraved:
- Fix the in-hand date first, then work backwards. Not the occasion — the day it needs to be physically in hand.
- Count in business days and subtract the holidays. Seventeen calendar days and 17 business days are weeks apart in December.
- Ask the seller what happens between your order and the cutting. If the answer is "nothing, we engrave what you typed," you have a faster timeline and no safety net. That is a real trade, worth making on purpose.

When is it too late to change the engraving text on a ring box?
The moment you approve a layout. Until you reply to that email the text is still editable and nothing has been cut, so changes cost nothing but a day. After approval the piece is personalised to order and cannot be returned unless it arrives damaged or the engraving is wrong on our side.
Un-engraved pieces keep the standard 30-day return window with no restocking fee. Engraving is the one decision on the order that closes early, which is another reason the proof email is worth reading properly rather than replying "looks good" from a phone.
Which jewelry boxes come with free engraving?
Four pieces: the single walnut ring box, the hexagon double ring box, the necklace box and the stud earring box. Engraving is free on all four, up to 30 characters, cut into the lid. They are collected on one page: free engraving.
For scale, the single ring box lid measures 2.2 × 2.2 in (56 × 56 mm) on the outside. Thirty characters is the ceiling on all four pieces, and the three layouts we email are how you see what your particular 30 characters look like before anything is cut.
